Instagram CEO says Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone apps are coming

Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom has hinted that Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone apps are in development, but don't expect them to arrive any time soon.

During an interview with Fast Company where he was asked about the possibility of a Google Glass Instagram app, Systrom said that the firm was more focused on bringing the app to all mobile operating systems first.

"We're not yet on Blackberry or Windows Phone, so I think those will come before Google Glass," he said, hinting that the firm will also release a Glass app eventually.

Users needn't get too excited yet though, as despite seemingly confirming that the apps are in development, he said they're unlikely to arrive any time soon. We're guessing that this is a blow for Microsoft and Blackberry too, which must be hoping for Instagram apps to boost their respective lackluster app stores.

Systrom added, "I'm not saying those will come anytime soon. I'm just saying that in order of priority, the way we evaluate where to expand to is really simply where our users are, and where the growth is. It took us a very long time to get to Android."

He's not wrong, of course. Instagram made its debut in the iPhone and didn't appear on Android until 18 months after its iOS debut. However, since being released on Android, Instagram has grown its user base from 25 million to over 40 million.

That number is likely to grow, too, as the Facebook owned service announced Instagram Video last week, as the firm looks to overtake its photo sharing rival Vine.
